ABOUT
Hi there, I'm Leila!
I study Drama at Anglia Ruskin Cambridge with a keen interest in how theatre can support the education of children and vulnerable communities. To demonstrate the training acquired during my university experience, I am currently working on a dissertation project to create theatre-based educational materials helping children to explore topics through story driven practice. The performance piece, which has been adapted to support a fully online format, lies alongside six supporting tasks and an expansion worksheet – all of which were designed and produced by myself.

My work with a small Theatre in Education (TIE) company 1616, touring several UK schools conducting immersive workshops for children, was integral in igniting the ambition to work alongside and with young people.
Furthermore, an internship with Creative Arts Charity, Dramatic Need, back in 2019 taught me a lot about the administrative side to creative arts work and allowed me to develop skills that have later been applicable to a multitude of other projects. My role during that time was to promote and recruit for the Volunteers Programme that is conducted in Arts Centres in South Africa and Rwanda working with disadvantaged children from deprived areas. Between September to December, I was responsible for the outreach and communications system to every University within the UK, providing physical volunteer packs and efficient pursuit emails. In the January, we then organised and hosted The Children’s Monologues, a successful charity event which set out to highlight the values and incredible work of Dramatic Need.
At present, I volunteer with vulnerable adults through Cambridge Community Arts, using my knowledge of theatre to facilitate educational sessions for them, a process which has been incredibly rewarding and the feedback from learners has provided an amazing opportunity for development. The work at CCA helps me grow not only as an arts practitioner but as a person too, widening and diversifying the pool of performers I work with, thus helping me to respond to difference with an improved sense of understanding and empathy.
